TrackMania United environments

Friday, January 5th, 2007

All the environments from the previous TrackMania games will be in the United game. And here they are:

Stadium: With a Buggy/F1-car you will drive at arenas with mixed asphalt and dirt parts. The cars have much grip and to get the best laptimes you need precise control on the techical and fast stadium courses.

Island: Speeeeeed! The Island car is both speedy and will have you powersliding around the insane tracks. It’s big jump bonanza.

Desert: It’s soon time for the Paris-Dakar. But in the TrackMania desert you get loops and hairpins as well. The desert cars suspension reacts to every bump and you need to be a bit careful.

Bay: It’s a day in the city with your trusty old 4×4. And the occasional loop and rooftop racing, of course.

Rally: Go crazy in the wild. Dirt tracks and medieval roads and walls. Tight passages, river crossings and winding roads.

It's off to the sunset

United! United! United!

Monday, November 20th, 2006

TrackMania United is on its way. The original game was released in 2003 and quickly became sort of an underground hit. TrackMania Nations which was released for free was downloaded over 20 million times.

TrackMania United will have a single player campaign with three game modes and nearly 200 new circuits with jumps, loops, ramps, turbo power and hairpin turns. All seven environments from the previous games are now beign brought together for the first time with each environment having its own cars and driving technique. Any of the pre-existing player-made circuits can now be used, which makes the available circuit count add up to more than 100,000!

Colin McRae: DIRT gets new engine

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

The new McRae rally title from Codemasters will come to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2007 and is the first game based on Codies’ new game engine Neon.

Neon is a multi-platform continuous technical development that’s already been in production for over 18 months with over 30 tech experts on the team. Neon is being used to build Colin McRae: DIRT from the ground up with technology developed exclusively for next-generation formats; there’s no adaptation of previous McRae tech in DIRT.

DIRT will feature 40 official licenced vehicles with 12 car categories.

Rally, Polish style

There are way too many X’s in the title but hopefully the lame title Xpand Rally Xtreme hides a good rally game. Slipstreaming are bigger fans of circuit racing than rally but nevertheless there’s something special to go out against the clock on roads that are too narrow for comfort.

The polish developer Techland really showed in the first Xpand Rally that you don’t need big names and licenses for some good old fashioned fun. The game was a pleasant surprise and kept me busy for a while so there sure is bound to be some promise in the Xtreme version.

Coming to your PC in… erm…. I have no idea. Soon, perhaps.
